Welcome to the website of the Fairbury Rural Fire Department. Established in 1964, our department provides first-response protection to the Fairbury Rural Fire District, comprising approximately 200 square miles in central and southwest Jefferson County, Nebraska. This includes the incorporated villages of Reynolds and Endicott and (since 2018) the city of Fairbury.

We are a committed team of about 50 professional volunteer firefighters. With a modest taxpayer-supported budget supplemented by the occasional generous individual or business donation, we nonetheless devote thousands of hours every year to formal (often certificated) readiness training, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and all varieties of community outreach. We are the everyday folk of the Fairbury area—sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors, most of us making our living as farmers or businesspeople or factory workers—but we believe the standards we keep for our organization put us in the same conversation as many of the best career departments in our region, who have the luxury of greater funding that supports full-time paid staffing.
